Passed Like a Shadow is a novel that chronicles the lives of two families, and how the decisions of some of the members had catastrophic effect on the rest of the family. Additionally, it narrates how HIV slithered its way into the lives of the two families, and the aftermath of its spread. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a shadow as a "dark figure cast upon a surface by a body intercepting the rays from a source of light. In relation to the above definition, a shadow ceases to exist when the rays from a source of light e. One of the definitions of passed is death. The verb is normally used with a preposition 'on' or 'away' to indicate a person ceased to exist - died. Consequently, Passed Like a Shadow refers to an individual whose existence life was shortened. We can note several characters in the book who died while young, having succumbed to HIV infection. They include Atwoki, Vicky and David.

Never read this book. But with the analysis, I am on the search for it. You are a sweetheart. Thank you. The story begins with Michael A Chapter 1. Daddy comes back home very drunk, wet and dirty and the whole atmosphere changes. He orders his food and as Abooki carries it to him, Atwoki unfortunately crashes into her, sending the meal down. It was a hell of a mistake.
Right froms the beginning of the novel, the reader is directly introduced to the main theme that Bernard Mapalala is addressing in Passed Like a Shadow. It begins with a man, sick and frail, confused and eager to know what doom the results of a blood test he has left at the hospital will spell for him. In a moving prologue that sums up the whole theme of the Aids pandemic, Mapalala lets the reader know that the disease has seriously ravaged western Uganda and Tanzania. But this time death will do the job. This disease will kill all the people in Uganda and Tanzania.
