One useful definition of which, in my view is that disruption means its business model fundamentally changed. While AI is on the rise in publishing industries, the field of journalism has been largely shielded by the fact that machines have long struggled with the intricacies of language. The problem was, they were telling the truth. Back then, and still today, major publishing and publishers and even agents not only launched careers, they destroyed them to save their own reputations and make money off the next victim who put up less of a fight, complained less, "got with the program". In the publishing industry, agents closed their doors and major publishing houses ceased scouting for new authors and dropped their exposition conferences, where authors could solicit agents and new and have their manuscripts reviewed and enjoy direct access to the deal-makers in their industry.

Consequently, printing services that self-published authors used to be able to use and afford suddenly charged soaring rates.
